Wouldn't it benefit those who review applications if normal players were able to view an application posted as we would interact with the player on a larger scale, especially if they're quite active, rather than a staff member who may only have one encounter with an individual which could lead to a first bad impression? I just feel like the community should be able to voice their opinions on staff applicants, especially if they are the ones maintaining the stability of the server.

We had to take that away because a lot of applicants have been telling their friends to vouch for them and thats fine, but whats not fine is if an applicant goes to multiple servers and tells random players to vouch for them or have applicants create new forum accounts and give themselves vouches. We have had this happen before which is why it was taken away. Its not that we dont trust new applicants but its happened too many times and we had to demote admins in the past or deny a lot of applicants.

Ideally by the time someone applies at a bare minimum 1 or 2 staff members already know who they are because they've been active enough in the community, player vouches really don't amount to much because it's usually just their friends brigading the post. If our first impression is someone's toxic chat logs or them being homophobic/racist/whatever then it especially doesn't matter what their friends could or would vouch about them.

So with these past situations, why not just take our permissions to type rather than view as well?

At the end of the day, if they do not have staff member vouches we really don't care. If we don't have staff members that can trust an applicant then we don't feel comfortable approving people. Like many of the discord channels applications just turned into general chat and oftentimes drama. If you know of someone who applied and you think they are REALLY REALLY great and you just HAVE to tell us, or the opposite, please DM me on discord or the forum.
